cape town

i know you will understand.

although it won’t feel that way today,

or tomorrow,

or the next.

in fact,

the days will seem to scrape against your skin

the sun will seem to taunt with scathing waves

and even laughter will beat your ear drums.

you will be left motionless

in motion.

that is,

until the day you’re walking

worn uneasy steps

in a quiet part of Cape Town

amidst veils, holy trinities

and the depth of Zulu beats.

a scent will catch

& propel you back

back & further still

this will be the moment

when perhaps you will remember

what you had already forgotten

to regret.
