analogy in July

there’s always a kitschy comedy where an American travels to Europe for the first time and discovers that the electric wall sockets are different. the scene always opens with this ignorant albeit humoursly hopeful person trying to force their foreign equipment into a wall plug. it ends with the person inevitably getting electrocuted while a laugh track explodes. I think this is the best analogy I can think of when I look back on what went wrong.
