low

in the corners they grazed.
all of the rain
fell low.
accrued
it flowed freely
amassing
it filled the valleys.
they slowed,
heavy.
drowsy eyelids.
batting lashes.
they never saw it coming.

  1. Recently on the weather channel was a report on underground sandstone caverns carved out by flooding. It’s a popular attraction somewhere in Utah or Arizona. The thing is that rainstorms several miles away result in flooding that inundates those caverns suddenly and unexpectedly. Many tourists have died unsuspecting as a result

  2. I live in a valley here in Australia – sometimes it rains in the hills, miles away. A day or so later, once dry creek-beds are flowing again. You never hear the water coming. I love it. Thanks for stirring up those thoughts 🙂
